LaRoi Leon Robertson passed away August 30, 2019 at The Oregon Veterans Home in The Dalles, Oregon. LaRoi (Robie) was born in Fremont, Nebraska on August 22, 1933 to John Ray Robertson and LaVon Geraldine (Larson) Robertson. Robie grew up in Grand Forks, North Dakota living with his mother, sister, aunt and cousins during the war.  The family moved to Valley City, North Dakota his freshman year, where he attended Valley City High School.  After graduating high school, Robie attend Valley City State Teachers College, and was a member of the VC Vikings football team that won two conference championships receiving All Conference recognition his senior year.

In 1953 Robie met Donna Marie Luker at the local theater where Donna worked at the candy counter, and they were married April 19, 1955. To help pay for college Robie joined the Army and was stationed in Germany for a portion of his service. He was also member of the North Dakota, Nevada and Oregon National Guard.

Robie’s passion was teaching and coaching. He started his career in North Dakota but eventually moved his family west, living in Nevada before landing in Oregon.  The first half of his Oregon teaching career was in southern Oregon at Henley, Phoenix and Lakeview High Schools. In 1980 Robie and Donna moved to Clatskanie, Oregon where Robie taught and coached football and track until his retirement from teaching in 1993.  He continued as head football coach at Clatskanie through the 2004 season. After retiring he enjoyed golfing with his longtime friends and fellow coaches. Robie always felt he was a lucky guy getting to work with kids and helping them achieve their full potential.

Robie is preceded in death by his wife and son Randall.

He is survived by his sister LaRae Carlson; sons James and Casey; daughter-in-law Brenda; daughter Judy; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Robie was caring husband, father and coach. He was an eternal optimist and will be missed by his family and friends.
