James “Jim” Benjamin House Jr. passed away peacefully at his home on June 28, 2019. James was born Sept. 6, 1936 in Erick, Oklahoma. At the age of six, he moved to Clatskanie, Oregon with his parents, James Benjamin House Sr. and Lucy House, in 1942. After graduating from Clatskanie Union High School in 1955, he attended Oregon Institute of Technology in Klamath Falls, Oregon.
Jim pursued a degree in automotive technology from 1955-1957. Jim returned to Clatskanie to start his own automotive repair and towing business, known as Jim House Towing. IN 1957, Jim met his first wife, Delores Wilson, and they married in 1959 and had three children. In 1980, Jim had his last child with his partner, Geneva Umsted. Jim continued operating his business with his life partner, Phyllis Thayer, until his passing.
Jim is survived by his life partner Phyllis Thayer; her son Dean Bruner; his four children Sharon (House) Wachsnicht, Wesley House, Brenda (House) Keim, and Alice Umsted; eleven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. on July 5, 2019 at Columbia Funeral Home, 1105 Maple St., Longview, Washington. A procession will begin on July 6, 2019 at 12:30 p.m. from 225 SE 3rd St., Clatskanie, Oregon taking him to his final resting place at Murray Hill Cemetery, 90 SW Hall Rd., Clatskanie, Oregon. Following the service, a reception/luncheon for family and friends will be held at the Clatskanie American Legion Hall, 950 NE 5th St., Clatskanie, Oregon. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Community Home Health and Hospice in memory of James Benjamin House Jr. would be appreciated. Arrangements are made through the Columbia Funeral Service in Longview, Washington.
