Howard Charles Behrend of Clatskanie passed away in Longview, Washington on May 13, 2019. He was 90 years old. He was born in Cleveland, Ohio on April 4, 1929.
He was drafted into the Army in 1951, serving two years active duty, three years and seven months in the Army Reserves, and five years in the Naval Reserves. He worked for Georgia Pacific for 24 years before retiring in 1991.
In his younger days, he was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing with his family, also a talented artist, enjoying drawing portraits of his family, especially his grandchildren and also wild life.
He is survived by his wife Hattie Sue Behrend of Clatskanie; son Michael Behrend of Westport; son Edward (Melissa) Behrend of Clatskanie; daughter Deborah Mueller of Clatskanie; grandsons Jeremy (Ashley) Behrend, Joshua (Shauna) Behrend all of Longview, Washington; granddaughter Heidi (Tyler) Wayne of Paris, France; great-grandsons Justin Behrend of Castle Rock, Washington, Jason Behrend and great-granddaughter Hattie Behrend, both of Longview, Washington.
He was preceded in death by his son Lawrence Behrend of Westport; parents Charles and Louise Behrend; brothers Norman and Kenneth Behrend; half-brother Raymond Woehrman; half-sister Arline Freiwald; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. at Westport Cemetery on May 18, 2019.
