Bernice Mae Honeycutt passed away on Sat., Nov. 24, 2018 at the age of 88. She was a long time Clatskanie resident and spent 63 years living on Bodine Road. Bernice was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 13, 1930 to James and Helen Bovee-Dodds Remick. She is the oldest of their 14 children. She spent much of her childhood nomadically, travelling with her family. Bernice settled down at 18 years old and married Etsel Honeycutt in April of 1949 in Rainier, Oregon. Six years later they moved to the Clatskanie area. Bernice and her husband started and operated Honeycutt Logging. Bernice also spent 21 years working as a cook for the Clatskanie Grade School. In her free time Bernice spent many hours dedicated to her beautiful writings and poetry. Every summer Etsel and Bernice kept busy by growing an enormous garden that allowed them to share produce with the many they loved.

Bernice is preceded in death by her husband Etsel Honeycutt; brothers James, Frank, and Robert Remick; and sister Phyllis Honeycutt. She is survived by her children; Mary Kathrine Lee and Etsel Honeycutt Jr.; grandchildren Angela Kruger, Alaina Johnson, Daniel, Devin, and Theresa Honeycutt; and her great-grandchildren Julia, Berett, Wyatt, Emmalynn, and Sarah.

Bernice was known for her beautiful turquoise jewelry that she knew brought her health. With a piece on every finger, she jingled when she walked. Never did this slow her down, as she could work circles around all who knew her. Bernice’s personality was joyfully infectious and could fill any room. Ever the comedian, she always wanted to put a smile on your face. Every person who had the opportunity to know Bernice felt the love she shared with the world.

A memorial service for Bernice will be held at the Mayger Church Sat., Dec. 1, 2018 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers please contact her daughter, Mary Lee at (360) 936 – 1972 as a scholarship is being set up in memory.
