There was pie-o-plenty at the Clatskanie Chapter T P.E.O. Pie in the Park scholarship benefit contest Saturday, June 24.

Several Clatskanie residents, including adults and children, entered into the contest, which had four adult categories and two youth categories.

After the judging, pies are then sold by the slice. The P.E.O. members also bake pies to sell, most of which aren’t entered in the contest, said Debbie Hazen, P.E.O. member and longtime Clatskanie resident.

Judges included Eric Evenson, Phil Hazen and Robert Keyser. Columbia County Commissioner and Clatskanie resident Margaret Magruder also participated in the event.

April Shetler received the grand champion award for her apple pie with brown sugar topping, which also placed first in the fruit pie category.

Barb Ripplinger, who has donated pies for many years to the event, captured first and second place in the Adult Holiday Specialty Division with her Peanut Butter Cream Cheese (pictured) and Nutter Butter pies. Barb was also runner-up for Grand Champion pie baker in the adult division.

In the youth holiday specialty division, Lacey Willis took first for her salted apple caramel pie, followed by Cheyenne Packard in second with her sour cream lemon and Elise Helgensen in third with strawberry cream.

In the youth fruit division, Kasidy Engen took first for her peach crumble pie, Cheyenne Packard took second with blueberry-strawberry and Ana Wehrley took third for apple crumble.
