The Coast Guard has announced a formal marine casualty investigation has been convened into the marine casualty of the commercial fishing vessel Coastal Reign which capsized Feb. 20, resulting in the loss of two lives.
The crew of the 38-foot fishing vessel, Coastal Reign, was attempting to cross the Tillamook Bay Bar inbound when the vessel capsized with four crew members on board.
The Coast Guard watch sector was monitoring the bay crossing when the vessel overturned. Rescue crews were immediately dispatched to the site and the four crew members were pulled from the water. Two were responsive, two others were not.
Rear Adm. Anthony Vogt, Coast Guard Thirteenth District Commander, authorized the investigation pursuant to the authority contained in Title 46, United States Code, Section 6301 and the regulations promulgated thereunder.
The Coast Guard has established an e-mail address for the public and interested parties to provide information, ask questions and make comments related to the ongoing investigation and scheduled hearing. The Coast Guard said the e-mail will be checked regularly and all correspondence will be acknowledged. The e-mail address is: D13WebManagers@uscg.mil.
Upon completion of the investigation, the Coast Guard will issue a report of investigation with collected evidence, established facts and conclusions and recommendations regarding the marine casualty.
