A Warrenton man was killed in a head-on collision with a semi truck at around 8 a.m. on Dec. 23.
Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the report of a semi-truck and a passenger car involved in an accident on Highway 30 just west of Clatskanie.
According to OSP, a 2004 Pontiac sedan was traveling westbound on Highway 30 when for unknown reasons it crossed over the center line and struck an eastbound 1981 Kenworth tractor head-on.
Following impact, the Pontiac was thrown from the roadway and became partially submerged in a water filled ditch next to the highway. The truck, pulling a trailer loaded with lumber, also careened into into the ditch.
OSP identified the driver of the Pontiac as Qiongfang Peng, age 49, of Portland. She was transported to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries. Her passenger, Zai Yang, age 55, of Warrenton, was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the truck, Dennis Erickson, age 37, of Sheridan, received minor injuries and was treated at the scene. A large diesel spill occurred and crews are on scene attempting to clean up the area.
OSP was assisted by the Oregon Department of Transportation, Columbia County Sheriff's Office, and the Clatskanie Rural Fire District. At 2 p.m., Highway 30 was still closed in both directions. ODOT has established a detour for through traffic (excluding trucks).
